Wendy Parent and Avis Crane were elected to the SEA/SEIU Local 1984 Board of Directors in a special election at the First Quarterly Council Meeting on Thursday night.

The special election was needed to fill the newly created CCSNH director position as well as to replace Treasurer Ralph Tilton, who recently retired from state service.

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mark Connolly was the guest speaker at the First Quarterly Council Meeting.

Wendy Parent, of Lakes Region Community College, was the only nominee for the CCSNH director position and was named the winner by acclamation.

“I look forward to giving a voice to all members,” Parent said. “The SEA has grown to include municipalities and the colleges, and I look forward to helping ensure we’re all heard.”

There were two candidates for treasurer, Karen Irwin of DHHS and Crane, though only Irwin was on the ballot. As Crane was nominated from the floor, her name needed to be written in, and she received the majority of the votes.

“I hope to carry on Ralph’s great leadership, and that of previous treasurers I’ve worked with,” Crane said. “I just hope to do my best to fulfill the role and do a good job with it.”
