SEA/SEIU Local 1984 understands the importance of higher education for our members and their family. As a member, you have access to several scholarships and degree options. You can read more about each below:
College scholarships
SEA/SEIU Local 1984 members and their families are eligible for scholarships from our scholarship funds as well as through Union Plus.
Union Plus scholarships
Applicants for this competitive scholarship are evaluated according to academic ability, social awareness, financial need and appreciation of labor. A GPA of 3.0 or higher is recommended. SEA/SEIU Local 1984 scholarships
The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation administers the SEA’s two scholarships – you must apply for either online using the NHCF’s common application. When completing the application, you must check the box denoting that you are a “State Employee Association member or dependent.” Please note that demand for these scholarships is strong.
The Joan Dolloff Scholarship is established to provide scholarship assistance to SEA members and their dependents who are pursuing studies in a healthcare field.
The State Employees of NH Inc. Scholarship is established to provide scholarship assistance to SEA members and their dependents.

Degree programs and discounts
SEA/SEIU Local 1984 members are entitled to several higher education benefits:
New England College (discounted tuition) – NEC provides a 15 percent tuition discount to SEA/SEIU Local 1983 members on the majority of its undergraduate and graduate degree programs. NEC will also waive all fees, except the end of program graduation fee. NEC’s Accelerated Associates in Professional Studies will be discounted at 10 percent. This discount does not apply to doctoral programs. Contact the college directly at 428-2000. www.nec.edu
SEIU Free College Benefit – With the SEIU Free College Benefit, eligible SEIU members and their families can earn an Associate Degree or Certificate online without having to pay for tuition, fees or e-books. A new partnership with Eastern Gateway Community College, part of the University System of Ohio and regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission offers grants that fill the gap between any Federal, state, or employer education grants the student receives and the cost of tuition, fees, and e-books for certain online programs. SNHU’s College for America – Through a partnership with Southern New Hampshire University’s College for America, SEA/SEIU Local 1984 members can a bachelor’s or associate’s degree for just $3,000 a year. The competency-based program allows you to create your own schedule while providing the support of a dedicated advisor. Read more on the SEIU member benefits site.
